A Hong Kong tourist said on social media on Thursday (June 11) that they suffered minor burns after being struck in the face by a flaming baton while watching a fire performance at a hotel in Phu Quoc, Vietnam.
According to the post, the incident occurred during a fire show at the hotel. The tourist said the impact felt "like an entire basketball being thrown" at the face, leaving the affected area swollen and red. Part of the hair was also singed in the accident.
The tourist said the injuries forced them to cancel the remainder of the travel plans.
According to the post, the hotel offered compensation equivalent to one night's accommodation. The tourist rejected the offer and criticized the hotel for failing to provide adequate safety protection for guests watching the performance.
