A 12-year-old girl died after falling from a residential tower at Taikoo Shing on Wednesday evening (June 10), in a tragedy that occurred hours after her mother died in a separate fall from the same building.
Police received a report from a security guard at Lu Shan Mansion, Taikoo Shing, at 7:21 p.m. on Wednesday, stating that a girl had fallen from a height and was lying on a podium level. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and confirmed that the 12-year-old was dead.
According to information obtained by local media, the girl's mother had fallen to her death from the same residential block earlier that morning. The incident was discovered and reported to police by the girl.
Sources said the mother and daughter had argued over educational issues on Wednesday morning. The mother later went into a bedroom. A short time afterward, the daughter, who was in the living room, reportedly heard her mother shouting from inside the room.
The girl immediately entered the bedroom but could not find her mother. Looking out of the bedroom window, she reportedly saw her mother lying on a second-floor podium below.
The girl then called police. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is understood that the girl was subsequently taken to Eastern Hospital and accompanied by her father and grandmother.
Police also notified the Social Welfare Department to follow up on the case.
The girl later returned to the family's Taikoo Shing residence with her father. At about 7:20 p.m. that evening, she reportedly fell from a height and died.
