The death toll from the magnitude 7.9 earthquake that struck waters off the southern Philippine island of Mindanao two days ago has risen to at least 45, according to the country's national disaster risk reduction and management council.
Authorities said the earthquake has also left 487 people injured and 17 others missing.
The disaster has affected more than 33,000 families, or nearly 150,000 people, while over 40,000 residents have been forced to evacuate and seek temporary shelter.
A total of 238 facilities, including hospitals, schools and bridges, sustained damage in the quake. Nearly 3,000 homes were also damaged.
Officials said more than 1,700 aftershocks have been recorded since the earthquake struck. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing.
