A random stabbing attack at New York's Penn Station on Sunday evening left six people injured, authorities said, as the city prepared to host Game 3 of the NBA Finals with President Donald Trump expected to attend.
The incident occurred around 7 pm on Track 1 of the NJ Transit waiting area inside the station, according to reports. Witnesses said a man believed to be emotionally disturbed launched a random attack, sending terrified commuters fleeing as victims cried out in pain.
The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) said one victim suffered serious injuries, four others sustained moderate or minor injuries, and a sixth person was transported to another hospital. No further details on the sixth victim's condition were immediately available.
An unidentified suspect has been taken into custody, authorities said. The investigation remains ongoing, and no motive has been disclosed.
The attack unfolded as Madison Square Garden, located directly above Penn Station, is scheduled to host Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals on Monday and Wednesday between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. President Trump is expected to attend Game 3 in person on Monday.
