According to Iranian media reports, 15 members of the Iranian delegation participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States have been denied entry to the country.
The Iranian men's national football team reportedly departed for Tijuana, Mexico, on the evening of June 6th after completing a 15-day training camp in Turkey, to prepare for the World Cup. Iran is in Group G, and all three of their group stage matches will be played in the United States. Due to tense US-Iran relations, the team will be based in Mexico to minimize their time spent in the US.
Although the Iranian players obtained US visas the day before their departure for Mexico, the Iranian embassy in Turkey stated that the US refused to issue visas to most of its administrators, executives, and technical advisors, and called on FIFA to intervene. The report indicates that 15 people, including the football association president, vice president, and a media director, were denied entry to the United States.
The Iranian ambassador to Mexico stated that, according to visa regulations, the team must enter and leave the United States on the day of the match.
