Players of the Iran national football team have been granted visas to enter the US for the FIFA World Cup, a White House official said on June 5, local time, leaving just 10 days before their opening match in Los Angeles, according to Reuters.
However, Iranian media reported on Friday that visas have yet to be issued to some members of the team's technical and administrative staff.
Citing an informed source, the report said: "Visas for some members of the national team's technical and executive staff have not yet been issued, and the US embassy has so far refused to issue them."
The Iranian squad is scheduled to fly from Turkey to Spain on Saturday (June 6) before heading to its training camp in Mexico. The team is expected to arrive there on Sunday.
Amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the US, Iran will base itself in Mexico despite all three of its World Cup group-stage matches being scheduled in the US. The arrangement is intended to minimize the amount of time the team spends on US soil.
