JD said it has invested over HK$35 billion in Hong Kong, and the project has received support from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government. The company positions Hong Kong as its first step to connect with international markets, highlighting how mainland supply-chain strengths can take root locally.
Hong Kong's 3-year "121 Plan"
1,000 brands: Partner with 1,000 leading brands (domestic and overseas) to build an ecosystem of "Hong Kong sourcing and Hong Kong sales, buy global and sell global."
200+ stores: Set up over 200 offline stores, integrating 6 to 8 JD MALLs to cover both core business districts and community areas.
10,000 jobs: Expand the full value chain to create over 10,000 local jobs, including collaboration with HKUST to nurture talent for AI and supply-chain digitalization.
Deeper localization with tailored products
JD links product R&D and selection to local living habits, such as window-type air conditioners, washer-dryer combos, and large-screen appliances suited to smaller home layouts.
It aims to meet household consumption needs "in one home," while offering fair pricing and standards aligned with local requirements.
It also brings in direct-from-origin essentials and foods; for example, mainland hairy crabs can arrive in Hong Kong in as fast as 12 hours, with over 190,000 imported crabs annually.
Boost local consumption and curb "northbound shopping" outflow
By leveraging both its Hong Kong/Macau app and offline store network, JD brings high value-for-money and scarce items to Hong Kong so shoppers can complete purchases locally instead of repeatedly going to mainland China.
618 promotions with delivery and installation
Storewide discounts during 618(June 18) can go as low as 5 percent, with cross-store promotions. Users can receive up to HK$6,180 in consumption.
Free shipping is offered for all categories with no threshold for single-item orders. Logistics includes an 18-district delivery network with delivery within 4 hours, service until 10:00 pm, and delivery plus installation as a package.
Long-term operations and strategic location advantages
The first Wan Chai MALL is in a market trial phase; JD has not disclosed quantitative targets for revenue or foot traffic. JD emphasizes a long-term plan to build an end-to-end industrial chain across retail, logistics, health and technology, with flexible development priorities. The company also cites Hong Kong's duty-free policy and plans pickup points at border checkpoints to support cross-regional consumption within the Greater Bay Area.
