The UK's net migration fell to 171,000 in 2025, marking its lowest level since 2012, after the government implemented stricter measures to limit immigration.
According to recently released data from the UK's Office for National Statistics, net migration totaled 171,000 in 2025. The figure was nearly half of the 331,000 recorded a year earlier and represented a sharp decline from the peak of 944,000 in 2023.
Reuters reported that the current Labour government has adopted tougher immigration controls, including further increases to salary thresholds for skilled worker visas.
The measures were introduced as the government seeks to address challenges posed by the right-wing political party Reform UK.
