A private car caught fire on West Kowloon Highway near Olympian City while traveling in the direction of Tsim Sha Tsui at around 10 a.m. today (June 4).
Video footage circulating online showed the vehicle engulfed in flames and stopped near a road split on the highway.
According to reports, the female driver had already exited the vehicle before the fire intensified and was not injured in the incident.
The Transport Department said that, due to the vehicle fire, all lanes of West Kowloon Highway heading toward the Western Harbour Crossing near the West Kowloon Government Offices have been closed.
Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes.
Meanwhile, some lanes on the section of West Kowloon Highway heading toward Kwai Chung near the West Kowloon Government Offices have also been closed. Drivers can only use the remaining open lanes, and traffic congestion has been reported in the area.
