NVIDIA and Intel launched "strategic offensives" against each other yesterday (June 1). NVIDIA made a high-profile entry into the PC market, unveiling the RTX Spark superchip based on the Arm architecture and TSMC's 3nm process. With support from manufacturers including Dell and Lenovo, NVIDIA is directly challenging Intel's core territory.
In response, Intel is counterattacking in the AI and data center sectors by launching the Xeon 6+ CPU built on its 18A process. Intel also plans to release an AI inference chip called "Crescent Island" by the end of the year, focusing on cost competitiveness to divert market share from NVIDIA in the AI computing domain.
This mutual offensive could break the duopoly in the PC chip market, accelerate the adoption of AI PCs, and reduce computing costs. However, Intel still faces significant challenges in overtaking NVIDIA's dominant position in AI in the short term.
