The UEFA Champions League final took place on May 30 in Budapest, Hungary, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain vying for the title. The two sides drew 1–1, and Paris Saint-Germain eventually won 4–3 on penalties, claiming the trophy for the second consecutive year. During the celebrations, large numbers of PSG fans in Paris took the opportunity to vandalise cars and set debris on fire. Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowds and arrested over a hundred people. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said a total of 416 people were detained nationwide, more than 280 of them in Paris, calling the riots absolutely unacceptable.

According to Reuters, Paris police deployed thousands of officers to maintain order in multiple areas. Metal barriers were placed around the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées to keep fans out. After Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their title, large crowds of fans flooded the streets to celebrate, setting off fireworks and firecrackers. Some fans threw fireworks at police officers. Tensions and brief clashes emerged around the Parc des Princes stadium in western Paris, where more than 40,000 fans watched the team's title defence on a giant screen.

Footage from local television channels showed large crowds of fans gathered on the partially cordoned-off Champs-Élysées, with police estimating the crowd at around 20,000. Most fans behaved peacefully, but some set off fireworks and flares. A police spokesperson said six vehicles and two shop fronts had been found damaged.

The report noted that after Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League for the first time last year, riots broke out that left two people dead and nearly 200 injured. The French government had this time deployed significant security forces ahead of the Champions League final night, mobilising 22,000 police officers and gendarmes nationwide, with 8,000 of them deployed in and around Paris.
