On the morning of today (May 23), a Route 289R bus was traveling along Tai Mong Tsai Road in Sai Kung towards Wong Shek Pier when the left side of its upper deck roof struck a thick, protruding tree branch. The branch pierced through the upper deck, with part of it penetrating the roof.
Video footage shows that the upper deck's front windshield and side windows were shattered. The front section and body of the bus were torn open and severely deformed. The branch, approximately four meters long and notably thick, caused significant damage. The bus driver alerted the police, and firefighters arrived at the scene to saw off the branch.
In response to media inquiries, KMB (Kowloon Motor Bus) confirmed that at around 7 am, one of its Route 289R buses hit a large tree near Tsam Chuk Wan on Tai Mong Tsai Road, and no injuries were reported. KMB has immediately suspended the bus captain from driving duties and will investigate the cause of the incident.
