As night falls, a long queue forms in front of a seemingly ordinary "cafe" on Miaoqian West Street, a trendy gathering spot for young people in Guangzhou. This establishment, named "Hope & Sesame," has a storefront of less than 10 square meters, resembling a tiny Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng. However, as we walk to the back of the shop and pull open a hidden door disguised as a shelf, the true face is revealed—a cocktail bar brimming with atmosphere.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Hope & Sesame, which has already become a top destination for visitors in Guangzhou. As one of the founders of this bar, Bastien from Switzerland has long regarded Guangzhou as his second hometown. He admitted that, out of concern for a lack of customers, he hadn't had the opportunity to run a relatively "niche" business in his hometown, Switzerland. However, Guangzhou, with its abundance of opportunities and large population, provided fertile ground for him to make his dreams come true. See how he describes this city!
