Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in China this evening (May 19) and will conduct a two-day state visit. On the same day, at the 2026 Hong Kong Forum on Cooperation and Development, Ivan Polyakov delivered a keynote speech and accepted an interview from DotDotNews. Polyakov serves as Chairman of TV BRICS and Vice President of the Russian International Affairs Council.

Polyakov has long been involved in international media and in matters related to cooperation between China, Russia, and the BRICS countries. He holds a friendly stance toward China and highly recognizes the achievements of China's path of modernization and its contributions to global governance. In 2024, as a core member of the Organizing Committee for Preparing and Ensuring Russia's BRICS Chairmanship, he participated in media communications work for the 16th BRICS Leaders' Meeting and helped promote the establishment of a multilateral information-exchange system among BRICS media. In 2025, he attended the China–Russia high-level dialogue forums on multiple occasions, calling for deeper strategic cooperation and practical collaboration between the two countries. This past March, at the 2026 China-Russia Sanya Dialogue, he clearly stated that China and Russia have established a mature and stable partnership. He added that strengthening dialogue between the two sides helps facilitate the implementation of joint projects and enhances strategic coordination.

Reporter: President Putin is visiting China today. What are your expectations for the outcomes of this China-Russia meeting?

Polyakov: As you know, our relationship—meaning the Russian–Chinese relationship—is a real good example of strategic, practical friendship and practical dialogue. I'm sure this visit will be very effective, and I believe our leaders will be able to discuss a lot of issues for our joint future.

Reporter: Within one month, the leaders of two major countries—Russia and the US—both visited China. How do you interpret the signals conveyed by this intensified diplomatic pattern?

Polyakov: I believe the negotiations among our three huge countries are a real good example of our good future, because the dialogue is a key base for our global joint cooperation and world peace for everybody, for everyone, for all the world.

In Polyakov's view, the back-to-back visits to China by the leaders of Russia and the US have injected positive momentum into the world's move toward a multipolar pattern.
