The Kremlin announced today (May 16) that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit China from May 19 (next Tuesday) to May 20 (next Wednesday).
Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said at a regular press briefing on May 14 that preparations for the visit had "essentially been completed," with only "final details" remaining to be finalized.
Peskov stressed that both Moscow and Beijing attach "high importance" to the visit, adding that the itinerary is expected to be "rich in content and fruitful in results," covering all aspects of bilateral relations.
The timing of the visit carries special historical significance. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the "Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation", the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.
Following the May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow in 2026, Putin said that China-Russia cooperation is one of the most important factors in maintaining stability in international relations.
He also described China as an important trade partner for Russia, noting that bilateral trade continues to grow and that cooperation is becoming increasingly diversified, supported by the development of high-tech industries.
