The Hong Kong Arts Development Council on Thursday (May 14) unveiled key highlights of the second edition of the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo (HKPAX) 2026, including its International Showcase, Pitching sessions and the debut of a new “HK Chapter” programme spotlighting local artists and arts groups.
Scheduled to run from Oct. 9 to 13, HKPAX 2026 will bring together artists, presenters and industry professionals from around the world for performances, networking and cultural exchange.
This year's edition will feature more than 40 performances across its International Showcase and Pitching programmes, alongside over 30 panel discussions and exchange sessions, further strengthening its role as a platform that connects the performing arts sector and promotes exchange, connectivity, and collaboration.
Organizers said participating artists and groups will come from five continents, reflecting the event's growing international profile.
A new addition to the expo, "HK Chapter", will focus on works by HK independent artists as well as small and medium-sized arts groups. The programme will feature productions spanning dance, theatre, music, Xiqu (Chinese traditional opera), and multidisciplinary arts, highlighting the diversity of the city's performing arts scene.
HKPAX will also present partner programmes and community activities aimed at connecting overseas visitors with the local arts and cultural landscape.
Mr. Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, Chairman of HKADC, stressed that the return of HKPAX comes at "an important moment" for HK's cultural development.
"It aligns with the HKSAR Government's Blueprint for Arts, Culture and Creative Industries Development, and responds to the cultural direction outlined in the national 15th Five-Year Plan, striving to establish an international platform to foster cultural and artistic exchange between China and the rest of the world," he said
Building on the strong foundation established by its inaugural edition, which facilitated many new professional connections, collaborations, and touring opportunities, HKPAX has demonstrated its value as a connector and platform for the international and regional performing arts community.
By convening artists, arts groups, institutions, presenters, and industry leaders from across different regions, HKPAX creates favourable conditions for exchange and long-term collaboration within the sector, while shining a spotlight on HK's vibrant performing arts landscape. It supports local arts and culture in reaching international audiences and consolidates HK's position as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.
Industry participants from the inaugural edition noted that the event broadened international connections and created opportunities for cross-border productions and exchanges.
Ahead of the official opening, HKPAX will stage four days of free public performances across the city as part of a prelude programme designed to encourage wider community participation.
Early-bird registration for HKPAX 2026 is open until July 17.
