Popular Japanese band back number has officially announced its first-ever concerts in Hong Kong, with two shows scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27, 2026, at Hall 10 of AsiaWorld-Expo under the title "back number 'Grateful Yesterdays Tour 2026' in Hong Kong."
The HK performances form part of the band's largest tour since its debut. Beginning in May, back number will embark on a five-stadium tour across Japan, staging nine performances expected to attract more than 500,000 attendees. The HK stop marks a major overseas milestone for the group, which is set to perform its signature hits while showcasing its evolved live sound and stage presence.
Formed in 2004 and making its major-label debut in 2011, the band consists of vocalist and guitarist Iyori Shimizu, bassist Kazuya Kojima and drummer Hisashi Kurihara. Known for emotionally resonant lyrics and melodic songwriting, back number has become one of Japan's leading music acts.
Its well-known songs, including "Suiheisen", "Takaneno Hanakosan", and "Hanataba", have gained widespread popularity, with more than 30 tracks surpassing 100 million streams. "Suiheisen" topped streaming charts for nine consecutive weeks and became a cross-generational hit, while the band's 2025 song "Want Want Want" was selected as the winter sports theme song for NHK.
Speaking about the group's first Asian tour, vocalist Iyori Shimizu admitted he initially felt uncertain.
"My most honest thought was, are there really that many people waiting for us?" he said. It was only after seeing overseas fans travel to Japan specifically for the band's concerts that he realized the scale of its international support.
Shimizu described the tour as "a new beginning," adding that the group hopes to present "the most authentic version of back number" and showcase the natural chemistry among its three members.
Tickets for the HK concerts will go on public sale at noon on May 21, 2026, via the Klook ticketing platform. Ticket prices are set at HK$1,280, HK$1,080 and HK$880.
