Led by players including Doo Hoi-kem, Ng Wing-lam, and Su Tsz-tung, the team faced Chinese Taipei in the round of 16. The tie required five matches, and after a 2–2 draw in terms of large matches, Su clinched the decisive fifth match, winning 13–11, 11–9, and 11–4 to give the team an overall 3–2 victory and qualification to the next round.
