According to CCTV News, the White House was briefly placed under lockdown on the afternoon of May 4 local time following a shooting incident nearby.
The US Secret Service stated that Secret Service personnel have responded to a shooting involving law enforcement officers at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. One person was shot by law enforcement officers. The specific circumstances are currently unclear. It is understood that the incident location is only about one mile (1.61 km) from the White House, near the Washington Monument.
CCTV reporters learned that shortly after the incident, White House Secret Service agents shot and killed a gunman near the Washington Monument. The situation is now under control, and there is no longer a serious security threat.
US media reporters at the White House said via social media that US President Trump was inside the White House for a meeting at the time and was not affected by the shooting. However, just minutes before Trump arrived at the East Wing for the event, gunfire was heard, and the Secret Service urgently asked media personnel to leave the North Lawn of the White House and enter the news briefing room.
