U.S. media reported on April 8 that the U.S. military has rolled out a massive replenishment plan for Tomahawk missiles, aiming to increase procurement by 1,200 percent in fiscal year 2027 following heavy consumption during the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, according to CBS News and The Washington Post.

According to the Pentagon's FY2027 budget request, the U.S. Navy is requesting US$3 billion to replenish Tomahawk missile stocks depleted during military operations against Iran. In FY2026, Congress allocated US$257 million to purchase 58 Tomahawk missiles. The Navy is now asking lawmakers to fund the production of 785 Tomahawk missiles. The FY2027 budget also includes approximately US$800 million for 494 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), significantly higher than the previous fiscal year's procurement level. The Navy's total weapons procurement request exceeds US$22 billion, more than double the amount requested in the prior fiscal year.

Since the U.S. and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, the U.S. military has fired at least 850 Tomahawk missiles, roughly nine times the Pentagon's average annual procurement volume. Mark Cancian, an expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), said in an interview that the Pentagon's inventory includes approximately 3,100 Tomahawk missiles, with the current operation having consumed more than a quarter of that total. Cancian said replenishing the depleted missile stockpile is expected to take two to three years. Even if the budget is approved, missile deliveries will still take time.
