According to CCTV News, an explosion occurred near a bridge that crosses the Panama Canal on May 6 local time, after a fuel tanker truck caught fire. The incident reportedly left one person dead.
Footage from the scene shows that after the blast, the fire spread rapidly. When vehicles passed near the bridge, a huge fireball rose above the bridge.
The local fire department said the accident took place at 4:12 p.m. local time. A privately operated fuel tanker truck exploded and caught fire beneath the bridge, triggering an emergency response.
After the accident, the government immediately mobilized firefighting, police, and emergency medical services to carry out rescue efforts.
The notice stated that the incident resulted in one death. In addition, during the response and handling, two firefighters sustained minor burns and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
It is reported that the fire has been brought under control. Relevant authorities will launch an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
