According to Reuters, on March 30 (local time), Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill renaming Palm Beach International Airport as Donald J. Trump International Airport, with the change set to take effect on July 1.
Under local rules, a formal application must be submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration before an airport name change, as the FAA must update flight charts and navigation databases and replace all airport signage. The bill had previously passed both the state Senate and the state House. State House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell criticized Republican lawmakers for choosing to spend US$5 million of taxpayers' money to rename an airport after Trump instead of working together to advance priority legislation.
The report said this is the latest in a recent series of buildings, institutions, government programs, warships and currency bearing Trump's name. It noted that Florida last year approved donating a parcel of downtown Miami land as the proposed site for a Trump presidential library.
The US Department of the Treasury said last week that beginning this summer, US banknotes will bear Trump's signature—marking the first time a sitting president's signature appears on US currency.
The report added that Trump's name has been applied to a range of projects. In December, the board of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (which has been taken over by allies appointed by Trump) voted to add Trump's name to the institution. That same month, the Trump administration took over the US Institute of Peace and affixed Trump's name to its Washington building.
Earlier this month, a federal arts commission composed of Trump appointees approved a commemorative gold coin featuring Trump's likeness—one of a series the US Mint plans to issue to mark the nation's 250th anniversary.
In February, the White House confirmed that Trump had proposed easing funding restrictions on the Hudson River tunnel project in exchange for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's support for renaming Washington Dulles International Airport and New York's Pennsylvania Station after Trump.
