According to CCTV News, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department announced on March 26 that they had handed over to prosecutors a Japan Ground Self‑Defense Force suspect on suspicion of illegal entry into a building after forcibly breaking into the Chinese Embassy in Japan.

Japanese media reported in the early hours of March 25 that police released more details of the person who forced entry into the Chinese Embassy on the night of March 24, and that the intruder belonged to the Japan Ground Self‑Defense Force.

Japanese media, citing police, reported that at around 9:00 am on March 24 (local time), the individual climbed over the wall into the Chinese Embassy compound carrying an 18-centimeter-long knife and made threatening remarks. Embassy personnel restrained him, and police arrested him on suspicion of illegal entry into a building.

After the incident, Japanese police said they "deeply regret" the matter and announced 24‑hour security measures for the Chinese Embassy in Japan. The Japan Ground Self‑Defense Force said it will fully cooperate with the police investigation and will take serious action based on the facts once they are established.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Japan, on the morning of March 24, an unlawful individual identifying himself as "a member of the Japan Self‑Defense Forces" climbed over the wall and forcibly entered the embassy, threatening to kill Chinese diplomatic staff. The embassy lodged a solemn protest and demanded a responsible explanation from the Japanese side.
