According to CCTV News, the New York Times recently published an opinion piece arguing that since the attacks on Iran began on February 28, the White House has woven a series of self-contradictory falsehoods about the war.

The New York Times listed those falsehoods as including: US President Donald Trump posting on social media that he had "destroyed 100% of Iran's military capability," yet Iran remains able to launch military strikes; the US government saying the campaign against Iran was "largely over," while now mobilizing forces from around the world to the Middle East; and the US claiming to have an "almost limitless" supply of munitions even as the Pentagon moves missile-defense systems from South Korea to the Middle East.

The article argues that US leaders' refusal to face reality during the Vietnam and Iraq wars led to strategic mistakes, and that the same pattern is repeating now. It says the US government ignored warnings that Iran might close the Strait of Hormuz when deciding to go to war, and that the global economy is now bearing the consequences of the current US administration's "overconfidence."
