In the early hours of today (March 21), a man was seen loitering with a knife along the Kwai Chung section of Castle Peak Road. Three police officers fired a total of five shots to subdue him.
The man sustained gunshot wounds to his thigh and chest and was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in an unconscious state.
HKPF reported that starting around midnight, they received multiple reports of a man carrying a weapon, behaving abnormally, and dressed strangely, appearing at Tsuen Wan Station and Cheung Wing Road in Kwai Chung. Officers conducted searches but found no one. Shortly after 1 a.m., several drivers reported that the man was walking along the Kwai Chung section of Castle Peak Road and brandishing a knife.
During a search, the man jumped out from the bushes and charged toward the officers, shouting, "I'll kill you." After verbal warnings and the use of pepper spray proved ineffective, two officers fired two shots and one shot, respectively. However, the man continued to charge forward. A third officer then fired two more shots, finally subduing him.
Police stated that the man holds a Hong Kong identity card, works as a construction worker, and has no criminal record. An investigation into his motives is ongoing.
