A rare traffic accident occurred this morning (March 18) on Tsing Long Highway. A private car traveling on the fast lane near Tai Lam Tunnel struck a water buffalo that had walked out from roadside vegetation. The driver could not brake in time; the car's front end was wrecked, parts were scattered across the road, and the buffalo was injured and collapsed, leaving bloodstains on the roadway.

To prevent traffic disruption, police officers had to herd the buffalo off the road one by one. Because the injured buffalo was unable to move, officers used ropes to secure it and drag it to the roadside, and they contacted the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) for follow-up. At about 9:43 am, AFCD personnel arrived with a tranquillizer gun; around 10:00 am, the buffalo was shot, collapsed, and was then loaded onto a vehicle and taken away.
