Amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, European airlines have extended the suspension of several routes to the region. On March 9, Lufthansa Group and Air France-KLM Group both announced updates to their flight schedules, citing safety concerns as the primary reason for the extended pauses.

Lufthansa Group suspends flights to Dammam, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi until March 15

Lufthansa Group, which operates Lufthansa, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, and Brussels Airlines, announced that flights to Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Dubai, and Abu Dhabi (UAE) will remain suspended until at least March 15. Flights to Tel Aviv (Israel) are expected to remain suspended until April 2.

Additionally, Lufthansa has extended the suspension of flights to Amman (Jordan) and Erbil (Iraq) until March 15, flights to Beirut (Lebanon) until March 28, and flights to Tehran (Iran) until April 30. However, flights to Riyadh and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Larnaca (Cyprus) are continuing as scheduled.

Lufthansa noted that flight schedules could change rapidly depending on updates from Middle Eastern aviation authorities, as airspace availability may shift based on the evolving situation.

Air France-KLM extends Tel Aviv and Beirut suspensions until March 13

Air France-KLM Group, headquartered in Paris, announced on March 9 that flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut will remain suspended until March 13. Flights to Dubai and Riyadh will remain suspended until March 12, while flights departing from Dubai will be paused until March 13.

Virgin Atlantic ends London-Dubai winter route early, suspends London-Riyadh flights

On March 8, Virgin Atlantic announced the early termination of its London-Dubai winter route, which was originally scheduled to operate until March 28. The airline attributed the decision to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. Virgin Atlantic also confirmed the suspension of its London-Riyadh route.

The airline has advised passengers with affected bookings to contact customer service for assistance and promised to work with other carriers to arrange alternative travel options where possible.
