According to reports from ABC News, citing Israeli officials, the large-scale joint airstrikes carried out by Israel and US on Saturday were planned for months.

The Israel Defense Forces said, "In the months leading up to the attack, the IDF and US forces conducted close joint planning, enabling maximum synchronization and coordination between the two militaries for this large-scale strike."

The report quoted US officials as saying the strikes used US aircraft and Tomahawk Cruise Missiles launched from US Navy ships in the region.

An estimated 35,000 US troops are currently stationed in the Middle East, and the US already has large military bases in the region. Qatar's Al Udeid base is the largest, housing around 10,000 personnel, with others located in Syria, Iraq, Bahrain and elsewhere. The number of US fighter jets deployed to the Middle East has also increased by several dozen since mid-January.

Iran immediately accused the US of "violating all international laws during the negotiation process."
