The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health is currently investigating two clusters of food poisoning cases with an epidemiological connection, involving a total of 5 individuals. The Centre urges the public to maintain personal, food, and environmental hygiene to prevent foodborne diseases.
According to the Centre, the affected individuals, consisting of 2 men and 3 women aged between 30 and 38, experienced symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever 14 to 49 hours after having dinner at Chef's Cuts, located at 11 Heung Yip Road, Wong Chuk Hang, in shops 229 and 230 on the second floor, on Jan. 30. Three of the affected individuals have sought medical attention but did not require hospitalization. All affected individuals are currently in stable condition.
Initial investigations indicate that the common food consumed by the affected individuals at the mentioned restaurant was oysters. Staff from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department had previously visited the restaurant and the oyster suppliers, Jeton International Food and 88 Investment Holdings Limited, for investigation. The Centre for Food Safety has instructed the suppliers to suspend the sale and supply of oysters, and issued a press release on Feb. 6 regarding follow-up actions, advising the industry to immediately stop selling oysters supplied by the companies if they are in possession of them. All newly reported cases consumed the oysters before control measures were implemented by the Centre for Food Safety. Investigations by the Centre for Health Protection and the Centre for Food Safety are ongoing.
It is noted that there was also a recent outbreak of food poisoning at the Chef's Cuts branch in Kai Tak AIRSIDE, involving 6 individuals, all of whom had consumed oysters.
