According to South Korean media, a pig farm in Pocheon, located north of Seoul, confirmed the occurrence of African swine fever cases on Feb. 7. This marks the 8th reported outbreak of African swine fever in the country this year. The South Korean government announced plans to strengthen national preventive measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
According to the South Korean Central Disaster Safety Response Headquarters, the pig farm houses approximately 8,800 pigs. The government has taken necessary actions to prevent the spread of the outbreak and plans to implement culling. As the affected farm is located in a key prevention zone, the Central Disaster Safety Response Headquarters does not currently intend to issue a "quarantine order" for all surrounding pig farms and related facilities.
It has been reported that earlier this month, the first case of African swine fever in the year was identified in the eastern city of Gangneung, followed by outbreaks in areas such as Anseong and Pocheon in Gyeonggi Province.
