Politicians in the UK are once again exploiting the Jimmy Lai case for political gain, insisting on his release during the ongoing China-UK negotiations. Let's call it for what it is: blatant political blackmail.

As Ta Kung Pao noted, even if Labour leader Keir Starmer referenced the case during talks, using language like "mutual respect"—which really means we're not interfering. Loud and clear—the UK government neither intends nor can intervene in an independent judicial process.

Wen Wei Po called it out: Let's talk facts—this trial included 156 days in open court, over 2,200 pieces of evidence, and an 855-page verdict. The evidence is overwhelming. Jimmy Lai colluded with foreign forces, called for sanctions, and incited subversion—he is not a "press freedom icon"; he is a national security offender.

The wounds of the 2019 riots still run deep among Hongkongers. Much of that chaos was fueled by Lai and his media empire. Justice now is not suppression—it's long-overdue accountability.

To these politicians, we say: spare us the colonial condescension. Hong Kong's future belongs to its people and the law—not to outsiders. You don't get to play judge over our justice.
