A fire broke out at an apartment on the 19th floor of Yung Shek House in Shek Yam Estate, Kwai Chung, at around 7 a.m. on Feb. 3. The fire, which produced thick black smoke, prompted the evacuation of approximately 50 residents from the building.
Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene and deployed a water hose and a breathing apparatus team to combat the blaze. The fire was extinguished within 18 minutes, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Footage circulating online showed heavy black smoke billowing out of the apartment's windows, creating a frightening scene for neighboring residents and those living in upper floors.
According to on-site reports, the fire originated from a sofa and miscellaneous items inside the unit. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
