A fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. today at a unit in Chak Yun House, Tin Chak Estate, Tin Shui Wai, prompting the emergency evacuation of over 400 residents.
Flames and thick smoke were seen billowing from the unit, while the building's fire alarm rang loudly, waking residents who rushed downstairs to safety. Promptly arriving at the scene, firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze within approximately 30 minutes. A man inside the flat, who suffered multiple burns, was rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment.
Initial investigations by the Fire Services Department revealed that the fire originated in both the bathroom and kitchen of the unit, raising suspicions about the cause. The case is now being handled as arson and has been transferred to the Yuen Long District Crime Squad for further investigation.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the injured man, and the motive behind the suspected arson remains under investigation.
