Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has admitted nine elite athletes, including several outstanding para-athletes, through its "HKBU Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme," reinforcing its dedication to creating an inclusive learning environment that supports dual-track development in both academics and sports.
Wushu champion Ms. Tsang, who has won multiple gold medals in international competitions, chose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Inspired by the use of data and technology in sports training, she aims to develop tools through programming to help athletes enhance their performance. With tailored academic support, she is successfully navigating her studies alongside her athletic career.
Para-athlete Mr. Yu, a champion in wheelchair dance and basketball, is part of the inaugural cohort of the university's new Sports Industry Management program. He compares using a wheelchair to wearing glasses—both are tools that enable individuals to perform at their best. Yu hopes to promote greater inclusion in sports and, after graduation, plans to continue as a full-time athlete or to contribute as an educator in special-needs schools.
To ensure these athletes can excel in both areas, HKBU provides a structured support system, including personalized academic advising and flexible scheduling for training and competitions. This approach allows students to maintain strong academic performance while pursuing high-level sports, encouraging them to explore diverse interests and contribute back to the athletic community and society.
