Media founder of Apple Daily, Jimmy Lai, was recently found guilty by the High Court of Hong Kong on all charges—two counts of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces and one count of conspiracy to publish seditious publications.
In the court's verdict, the judge affirmed that Lai was the mastermind behind all three conspiracies. He had deliberately used Apple Daily as a platform to spread seditious content and colluded with foreign powers, posing a serious threat to national security.
Just days after the verdict, foreign forces launched a wave of criticism, aiming to interfere and apply pressure. However, the verdict was unambiguous and unwavering—the evidence gathered over 156 days of trial unequivocally demonstrated Lai's long-standing connections to external anti-China forces. The extensive testimonies and documents unveiled the dark journey of an ambitious opportunist, from chasing wealth to endangering Hong Kong.
Notably, as early as July 2019, Jimmy Lai made extreme remarks at a forum hosted by the U.S. think tank. He openly suggested the United States could use nuclear weapons to destroy China, saying, "You have the nuclear weapon; you can finish them in a minute."
Taiwanese political commentator Tsai Cheng-yuan reacted with disbelief in a video program, questioning, "Is that something a human being would say?" He sharply criticized Lai, comparing him to notorious traitor Wang Jingwei and stating flatly that such views are unacceptable for any Chinese person.
