The Hong Kong Observatory has announced that a cold front located over northern Guangdong is expected to move across the coastal areas later today (Jan. 1). The maximum temperature during the day is forecast to reach 22°C, but cooler weather will arrive in the evening with moderate to strong northerly winds.
Urban temperatures are expected to drop significantly to a low of around 16°C tonight, while temperatures in the New Territories will be 2–3°C lower.
Over the next couple of days, strong winds will persist, and morning temperatures are anticipated to be around 12°C, with a noticeable temperature difference between day and night. Mornings will remain cool into early next week.
Looking back at historical records, 2025 marks the first time since the introduction of the Cold Weather Warning system in 1999 that no cold weather warnings were issued in both November and December.
