The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau announced today (Dec. 21) on social media that the total number of visitors to Hong Kong yesterday (Dec. 20) exceeded 235,000, with over 187,000 coming from the Mainland, accounting for nearly 80%. This is the highest figure recorded since the National Day Golden Week. Non-Mainland visitors reached nearly 48,000, marking a new high for this year and the second highest since the pandemic. The Bureau stated that these numbers reflect that, whether for visiting family and friends or holiday travel, Hong Kong remains one of the preferred destinations for travelers.
The Bureau noted that Christmas is traditionally a time for family reunions, and with today being the Winter Solstice, many residents and visitors choose to spend quality time in Hong Kong, experiencing the city's unique charm.
Meanwhile, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal welcomed two international cruise ships on Dec. 19, further boosting cruise tourism to the city. A series of events is also taking place, including the Winter Wonderland and Immersive Light Show organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The West Kowloon Cultural District features large-scale festive activities such as a giant dreamlike inflatable playground and a Christmas town. Various districts are adorned with light displays and themed decorations in shopping malls, providing a diverse range of activities for residents and visitors alike.
