According to reports from Taiwan's media, a random killing occurred in Taipei City last night (Dec. 19), when a 27-year-old suspect named Zhang committed several attacks at Taipei Station and outside Zhongshan Station on Nanjing Road West, before heading straight to Eslite Life. He ran from the first floor up to the fourth floor, then climbed to the rooftop and fell to his death.
There are speculations that he chose to take his own life out of fear of being apprehended by the police, who surrounded the area. Taipei police released surveillance footage on Dec. 20, showing the suspect climbing to the rooftop, with the police hurriedly following 140 seconds later. Upon entering the rooftop exterior door, they found no trace of him and looked down only to discover that he had jumped over the railing.
Forensic expert Gao Dacheng stated in a media interview on Dec. 20 that the assailant not only targeted vital parts of the body with his knife strikes but also displayed a professional technique. Based on the patterns of behavior before and after the attacks, it's evident that he intended to flee, and his fall from the rooftop might have been accidental. Gao further pointed out that the assailant's attack method was not a random flailing; the first victim was accurately punctured and killed, after which the assailant attacked randomly in the Zhongshan business district, targeting areas such as the neck and chest—vital parts capable of causing severe blood loss in a short time, leading to incapacitation. This indicates a degree of military training, with a clear intention to kill, especially as he chose to act during a busy time. His actions were definitely not influenced by mental illness or religious motives.
