Sebastien Lai, son of Jimmy Lai, has been expecting the US and UK governments to secure the release of his father. He is as naive about such prospects as his father was about achieving de facto independence of Hong Kong. Now, millions of pounds of fees later, what Sebastien Lai gets is no more than a statement from the so-called legal team, which didn't even argue the legal and factual points in the verdict. They just kept on telling us that Jimmy Lai is a British passport holder, without explaining why a British subject should involve himself lock, stock, and barrel in Hong Kong and Chinese politics and call himself a "democracy campaigner." What would the legal team have to say if a Chinese citizen got himself involved in such ways in British domestic politics, including heavily funding the opposition? The dysfunctional democracy in the UK deserves undivided attention from the Lais. Sebastien Lai should renounce his British citizenship, get a Chinese passport, and start campaigning for true democracy in the UK.
I am also curious about when, why, and how Jimmy Lai got his British passport.
Let's be clear: British subjects are not above Hong Kong laws.
