The WTT Hong Kong Finals continued with intense competition today (Dec. 14). In the men's singles semifinal held this afternoon, Chinese player Wang Chuqin withdrew before the match due to injury, allowing Swedish player Truls Moregardh to advance to the final. He will face Japanese player Tomokazu Harimoto tonight.
In a post-match interview, Moregardh expressed regret over Wang Chuqin's withdrawal and wished him a speedy recovery. He said that it is very unfortunate to see such an outstanding athlete withdraw due to injury. This is something no one wants to see.
When discussing the demanding schedule of table tennis, Moregardh acknowledged the sport's physical intensity and the challenge of maintaining peak condition. He shared that he had also withdrawn from matches in the past to preserve his career in the long term.
He added that table tennis is a highly competitive sport, and players all try to stay in the best physical shape possible. Finding the balance between competing and prolonging one's career is not easy.
