The WTT Hong Kong Finals 2025 continued on Sunday (Dec. 14) with a nail-biting first men's singles semifinal. Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto triumphed over China's Lin Shidong in a full seven-game marathon, securing his spot in the final with a dramatic 4-3 victory.
The opening game was a tightly contested affair. Lin Shidong managed to establish a mid-game lead and was the first to reach game point. However, Harimoto displayed remarkable resilience, saving the game point and scoring three consecutive points to snatch the first game 12-10, taking a 1-0 lead.
Harimoto carried the momentum into the second game, finding his rhythm quickly and dominating with an 11-4 win to extend his overall lead to 2-0. The intensity remained high in the third game. After leveling the score at 5-5, Lin Shidong surged ahead and managed to claw one back, winning the game 12-10 and narrowing Harimoto's overall lead to 2-1.
The fourth game was another tense battle. Withstanding pressure after falling behind, Lin Shidong once again prevailed 12-10, leveling the match score at 2-2.
In the fifth game, Lin Shidong started strong but couldn't maintain his advantage. Harimoto staged a comeback to win the game 11-6, regaining the lead at 3-2 on the overall scoreboard. Refusing to back down, Lin Shidong controlled the sixth game from the start and closed it out 11-7, forcing a decisive seventh game by tying the match at 3-3.
The final game lived up to its billing as a decider, with neither player able to build a significant lead. In the end, it was Tomokazu Harimoto who held his nerve, claiming the final game 11-8 to secure his place in the Men's Singles Final.
