In a dramatic turn of events at the WTT Finals Hong Kong 2025, Chinese table tennis star Sun Yingsha was forced to withdraw from the women's singles semifinal due to an ankle injury; at the same time, national team player Kuai Man advanced to the final.
The match had been intense, with both players locked in a close battle. However, by the third game, Sun Yingsha was visibly struggling. Kuai Man later told DotDotNews that she could tell Sun was uncomfortable, noting several unforced errors and a medical timeout during which Sun's ankle was taped.
"By the third game, it was clear her body wasn't feeling right," Kuai Man said. "She tried to continue, but I think the injury affected her performance."
Reflecting on her performance, Kuai Man said she was relatively satisfied, adding that she played more aggressively and flexibly than in previous matches. She also praised the Hong Kong Coliseum, describing the atmosphere and setup as excellent: "It's a great place to play, from the venue facilities to the player introductions—everything is top-notch."
With this victory, Kuai Man moves on to the women's singles final, where she will face the winner of the match between Wang Manyu and Chen Yi. "No matter who the opponent is, I'll give it my all and hope to bring the fans a great match," she said.
