The 2025 Legislative Council (LegCo) election is being held today (Dec. 7). Dr. Fakhrul Islam Babu, a member of the Yau Tsim Mong South Area Committee under the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, HKSAR, and his wife, Aisha Islam, who is from the Philippines, exercised their civic rights this morning by casting their votes at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre polling station.
Dr. Babu remarked that the voting process was smooth and seamless, taking only about 80 seconds to complete. He encountered no language barriers. He highlighted that elections are an important opportunity for ethnic minorities to directly express their opinions and share their concerns with candidates face-to-face.
Dr. Babu is particularly concerned about issues affecting ethnic minorities, such as housing, employment, and language support. He hopes the new LegCo will promote relevant legislation to address the livelihood needs of ethnic communities.
Aisha also praised the voting process for being efficient and convenient, noting that the staff were fluent in English. She emphasized that voting is deeply connected to everyone's lives and plays a vital role in building a better future for HK. As a member of the telecommunications industry, she pays special attention to issues related to technological development and hopes the newly elected legislators will actively contribute to promoting investment and progress in technology.
