The 2025 LegCo General Election is being held today, Dec. 7, with voting hours extended from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Shortly after 7 a.m., DotDotNews reporters observed a growing line of voters waiting at the airport polling station. By the time the polling station opened at 7:30 a.m., at least 60 voters were already in line.
A young couple preparing to embark on a vacation made a stop at the polling station at the airport to cast their votes, highlighting the convenience of the newly established facility. Speaking to reporters from DotDotNews, the couple said they voted before departing, emphasizing how the airport polling station greatly streamlined their travel plans.
The couple revealed that they almost always vote together. Asked about their expectations for this Legislative Council (LegCo) election as members of the younger generation, they said they are most concerned about community development and the implementation of citizen-focused policies. "We hope to see more new facilities built for the community, and we look forward to policies that address the actual needs of citizens," they said.
They expressed a preference for candidates who are "young, energetic, focused on community development, and responsive to citizens' concerns." Regarding their first voting experience at the airport, the couple described the process as smooth and highly efficient: "From entering to leaving, it took about five minutes to complete the voting."
They praised the polling station's convenient location, especially for voters who are traveling or have busy schedules that make it difficult to return to their designated constituencies during specific times. "Voting here is incredibly convenient. It allows us to fulfill our civic duty without disrupting our travel plans," they said.
Miss Lau, a Hong Kong resident who has been living in Shanghai, flew back to the city last night specifically to cast her vote. After voting at the airport polling station this morning, she planned to immediately return to Shanghai on another flight. Speaking to DotDotNews reporters, Lau shared her hopes and aspirations for HK's future development.
Lau explained that she made the trip solely to participate in this election. "This is probably my third time voting in a LegCo election," she said. "I think everyone should participate. If we want HK to keep improving, each of us needs to choose the right candidates."
When asked about the issues she cares about most, Lau said, "I'm particularly focused on the development of future generations. At the same time, I hope HK can make greater progress in the economy and technology." She also emphasized the importance of citizens' welfare, expressing her wish for the new LegCo to fight for more rights and benefits for the people. Regarding the Council's functioning, she added, "I hope it can operate more efficiently and pass more legislation that benefits citizens."
