A devastating No. 5 alarm fire erupted at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, on the afternoon of Nov. 26, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Among the victims was 37-year-old firefighter Ho Wai-ho, who died in the line of duty while rescuing trapped residents.
On the morning of Nov. 29, Sha Tin Fire Station, where Ho was stationed during his nine years of service, lowered the flags to half-mast and held a moment of silence to honor their fallen colleague. Outside the fire station, a table covered in white cloth was set up for the public to pay their respects.
Citizens brought an abundance of flowers, heartfelt cards, and offerings, filling the table and surrounding area. Some were forced to place their tributes on the ground. Messages on the cards expressed deep gratitude and sorrow, with notes such as "Rest in peace" and "Saluting the brave firefighters who protect us."
Ho was found collapsed at the scene of the No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, on Nov. 26. He was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital and passed away at 4.41 p.m.
