On Nov. 29, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government commenced mourning activities to express deep sorrow for the victims of the residential fire that broke out in Tai Po, as post-disaster relief, investigation, and financial support efforts are underway.
At 8:00 a.m., Chief Executive John Lee, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR Zhou Ji, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council (HKMAO) Nong Rong, Executive Deputy Director of the HKMAO Xu Qifang, principal officials, non-official members of the Executive Council, and civil servants, observed a three-minute moment of silence at government headquarters.
Nearby, large numbers of citizens gathered on pedestrian bridges and surrounding areas, standing in silence to pay their respects to the deceased.
