A major fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po at 2:51 p.m. on Nov. 26, escalating to No. 3 just 11 minutes later, then to No. 4 at 3:34 p.m., and finally reaching No. 5 by 6:22 p.m. The incident resulted in multiple casualties, including the tragic loss of firefighters on duty.
As of Nov. 27, the fire still burns, although it has gradually become more contained. The death toll has now risen to 44, with 45 individuals reported to be in critical condition. Additionally, seven firefighters sustained injuries during rescue efforts.
The seven buildings that caught fire were undergoing scaffolding work, and it is suspected that the construction materials used on the exterior did not meet fire safety standards. Three company executives responsible for the maintenance have been arrested. The police are currently gathering evidence at the Laurels Industrial Centre.
