Chief Executive John Lee participated in the GX Foundation's 7th Anniversary Celebration and the opening of its global headquarters, commending the Foundation's humanitarian contributions and aligning its mission with China's Belt and Road Initiative.
Since its creation in Hong Kong in 2018, the Foundation has provided humanitarian assistance in the medical and public health sectors to Belt and Road partner countries. Lee highlighted its role in promoting cross-border cooperation and youth training in humanitarian work, fostering a global humanitarian spirit.
He noted the Foundation's achievements in various projects, including over 23,000 free cataract surgeries and efforts to prevent infectious disease outbreaks, yielding significant results.
Linking the Foundation's work to national policy, Lee referred to the recent "Proposals for the 15th Five-Year Plan," which emphasizes high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and strengthening people-to-people connections.
"Under 'One Country, Two Systems,' Hong Kong serves as a vital link between the mainland and the world," he stated, asserting that Hong Kong supports national strategies and acts as a "super connector."
Lee concluded that high-quality Belt and Road cooperation fosters an economic network for mutual development and embodies the vision of a global community with a shared future, praising Hong Kong's compassion, bilingual abilities, and extensive networks in supporting this initiative.
