Sony Pictures has secured the film adaptation rights for Labubu, the beloved character from Pop Mart's "The Monsters" series, with plans to bring the IP to the big screen, according to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter.
The report revealed that Sony Pictures officially signed a film rights agreement with Pop Mart, the creator and manufacturer of Labubu, and will develop a feature film based on the character. As the project is still in its early stages, it remains undecided whether the film will be a live-action production or an animated feature. The core creative team has also yet to be confirmed. Should the film prove successful, it is expected to evolve into a franchise. Sony Pictures has not yet commented on the matter.
Labubu, created by Hong Kong illustrator Kasing Lung, is part of the "The Monsters" series.
