On November 12, a tennis match at the National Games was live-streamed and reportedly showed a cockroach, sparking discussions among some netizens. However, after verification by the tennis competition committee, it was confirmed that a moth, attracted by the lights, briefly appeared near the competition area during the broadcast. The nighttime venue lights drew in the insect and was not a cockroach, as circulated online.
The news and public relations department of the tennis competition committee stated today (Nov. 14), "Upon discovering the situation, the on-site security team immediately followed established procedures to quickly clean the area during the break in the match, ensuring that subsequent competitions were not affected." The Hengqin International Tennis Center, a professional venue that has hosted international events such as the Zhuhai WTA Elite Trophy and ATP Tour, strictly adheres to tournament standards for venue hygiene and maintenance. The appearance of this moth is considered an incidental natural occurrence and is not directly related to the venue's sanitation.
In response to insects attracted to nighttime lighting during events, relevant departments have optimized pest control plans and strengthened environmental management to minimize similar disturbances.
